Friends was one of my favorite shows growing up, so much so that I can still recite entire scenes line-for-line! I realized there were actually a TON of medical scenes throughout the series, such as Rachel AND Phoebe giving birth, Ross’ third nipple, and Joey’s kidney stones. Let’s take a look at how accurate these scenes were and see if Friends holds up 20+ years later!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

  • Can 100% back up the whole "everyone gets called in to see weirdness in doctor's offices/hospitals", I have lost count over how many times I was in a crowded exam room with me, my parents, my doctor and whoever they dragged in with them to examine me.

  • Man, I passed my first kidney stone one night after a show. I felt like I was going to DIE. The doctor thought I was exagerating or that I was passing gas and it got stuck or whatever. I literally BEGGED for a test. They just wanted to take some urine to calm me down and make me go away... I passed the stone right into the tube. They rushed to do some scan thing. I had SIXTEEN STONES waiting to get out into the world. They didnt do anything tho. I have passed 3 more since then. :) I live in constant fear lol

I was holding her hand and she was yelling in pain and I leaned back against the wall and my vision went black and I started sliding down the wall😂 afterward I felt like I was going to puke and the nurse just goes, “oh here’s a bag if you need.” and then just left the room after.

  • I remember the first time I was going into DKA. I was about 8-10 years old. We went to a teaching hospital because that’s what was near us. At one point I was so sick they were worried I was going to pass. I had easily 20 nurses, doctors, med students, residents, respiring specialist, etc, all come flocking into my room to see me. I felt very special lol.

  • Loved this video. The thing about the learning-years ago my son had an allergic reaction (to what we never did figure out and he's never had it again) and had a horrible painful red rash start on his face, and spread. ER-we had I think-the ENITRE department come through and look. the rash was so bad you could literally watch it spread across abdomen. IV benadryl worked. But my son learned to work it (he was 6 or 7)-everytime someone popped in to check and see if he needed anything-popsicle is what he asked for-at one point 3 different people showed up with popsicles at once lol

  • Dr Mike I really need your advice. I have friends/colleagues who think its perfectly fine to get together for out door events without a mask and stay in close proximity to each other. I see pictures on facebook of them all bundeled up with friends, without masks. Yet they are acting like its not a big deal. What do you think is a respectable/kind way I can educate them? Anything I come up with just comes off really paranoid sounding.

  • When i was 15 i got a large and weird cyst inside of my left breast and when i went to the hospital it turned out that it wasn’t that common of a disease. It turned out i someone had Gotten bacteria inside the breast and it had caused a cyst the size of a softball. i think i had every doctor and resident in the room at the same time checking me out. It was so awkward sitting there naked from the hip up while a flock of people were checking me out.

  • You should react to medical scenes in movies! There’s a movie called “last house on the left” with a great scene where the father who is a doctor is evaluating and treating his daughters injuries (I don’t want to ruin the whole movie) but she’s been shot and assaulted. It is a powerful scene but I’ve also always wondered if it’s medically accurate. seems pretty spot on to me!

  • I'm proud of myself for not fainting when witnessing my first niece being born. I was 10 at the time. There were quite a few of us in the room with my sister-in-law. My brother (the dad), her mother, both of my parents, and myself. I could've slapped my brother. She wasn't allowed to eat and he went to burger king and ate it in front of her. But then during the birth I saw the whole thing. When she came out I was so confused. For reference, I'm white, my brother (adopted) is black. So is my sister-in-law. And my niece came out very pale. It looked like she was white. But she looked exactly like my brother. Still does. She has his face. So I was so confused and the doctor could tell so she explained that her skin will darken over the next few hours which it did. But it was very confusing. Also...so much blood. I even commented on that during the birth. "Why's there so much blood?" Hey, I was 10, I didn't know how that stuff happened. But I managed to not faint so that's something.

  • I was hiking and saw a tree I wanted to climb and take pics from, I did and snapped a branch and straight fell, 16 feet (I went back and checked the height later) I must’ve tumbled sideways in the air because two sides of my body hurt, my ribs felt impacted and my hand was bloody. Vision was orange for a few moments and the breath was knocked out of me. I sat up breathing slowly and my vision and hearing returned to normal, I tested my body to see if anything was broken or seriously injured. I causally got up luckily I fell in marsh land so the ground was softer than normal, I hiked back up a small hill out of the marsh, realized I dropped my new iPhone I was taking pics with and went back for it, rebuked out of the marsh, wrapped my hand in a mitten and hiked 30 mins back out of the woods, and two streets to my home. I cleaned myself up in the bathroom an slayed down but my ribs still hurt, I was worried about internal bleeding as my bones have never broken, fractured etc. I then called my sibs and told them I was going to the hospital, I climbed into my car and drove myself, the hospital staff were shook. I spent the next few hours in a neck brace and had a cat scan. Went home ,ate but fine, next day my neck hurt and everyone’s reaction was not- wow so resilient- no it was -you’re 20 why are you hiking and climbing trees, especially alone?- Me: I wanted a cool picture, also I’m the tomb raider.

  • July 2018 I took a fall while straddling the railing on our boat, I bruised in a rather unfun place. It hurt. It was just a bruise though so I didn't think anything of it. A month later I was hospitalized for septicemia, a really nasty case. It became a surgery right in the ER and 10 days in the hospital. The bruise had been very deep tissue and went necrotic. It hurt. I had 2 fantastic Doctors that became friends. They were also asses. Who took great pleasure in teasing me, which I returned with great pleasure. They even helped my best friend, an RN, take photos so they could make me an album... They are sooo funny. smh It's okay though, I know all their SOs and where they live... :D
