    • So you're on board with the tyranny occurring over the flu. That's sad. Thanks for your contribution though. With a bachelor's of science in chemistry/physics, actually not that, basic mathematics can deduce what this is. NY has 8,623,000 people. 1% NY = 8.623m x 0.01 = 86,230 people. Has the "hot spot" of the "super duper deadly pandemic" killed half of a single percent yet? - Cuz then just a whopping 99.5% of NY is still not sick...enslaved for nearly a year.... in a non-quarantine that actually just forces all the populace to visit the same 10 stores allowed open. Net populace to thousands of populace allowed to visit only 10 stores....which spreads worse? :) WHO..."health experts"..."we shouldn't stop international travel to avoid stigma" (on an unknown virus rapidly spreading/killing in a country...a 6 year old could tell you quarantine the country is priority) Thanks for being either paid off or indoctrinated. I'd figure the super duper "deadly pandemic" surely would've killed a single percent of any town state or country right? Know what 1% vs 99% looks like on a pie chart? Oh. Thanks. Great Job.

  • I know you get triggered, but House's character is MEANT to do that. He is the anti-thesis of everything: religion, social constructs, logic, philosophy, friendship, etc. He's meant to go against all sorts of societal standards. I might not be doctor, but I understand the art of storytelling. Try to passively watch the show instead, and maybe you'll understand the purpose of his character. He treats his profession like gambling, and he can't stop or he'll lose the meaning of his self. The show is more psychological rather than medical. It is meant to make you feel this way because in some way, House feels the same with the rules of society.

  • I'm sure if dr mike was in the public eye during House's run, they would have based a perfect antagonist for House out of him. Makes sense too.. David Shore(who's not a doctor) created House to be the Anti-good doctor, a doctor who thrives on riding the hipocrasies and etiquettes of his colleagues

  • The character of House is based on Sherlock Holmes. It's a mystery show that takes the Holmes formula and puts a medical twist on it. He's supposed to have the same level of deductive reasoning and observational skills, and He uses it frequently throughout each episode, but some people never realize the Holmes connection so they are like "How did he know that?" Hence why he's also a drug-addicted egotistical misanthropist who refuses to see patients and only gets involved if the case is interesting. Sherlock Holmes was also a drug-addicted egotistical misanthropist who refused to get involved in cases (preferring instead to consult from his study) who would only get involved if the case interested him. Also, there is the House - Holmes (homes) name thing.

Also, I know I have huge holes in my knowledge, yet I have a pretty good b.s. detector. I do, however, have a deffinate fondness for Hugh Laurie. So, I love Dr House although my b.s. detector goes off every episode! It's been fun watching you react to House. Keep it up! I'm loving it!

  • I have never seen House... but now since I have Prime.. I am going to try watching the first season.. coming from a medical family, and also having a debilitating disease, I often steer clear of medical dramas and shows, I actual lay use to watch greys anatomy till they killed of the cast members I liked.. of course that was before I went back in the army and before my disease started to have me in hospitals for months at a time. Kind of lost interest in shows that had no basis in reality just sex and relationship drama lol. But now I am interest to see a few full episodes, maybe a show that is basically telling you up front that the show is about a guy and his issues and not really about medicine... maybe it will be interesting.. it seems kind of like Monk.. monk isn’t really about crime investigation it is about a man coming to terms with the death of his wife and learning to cope with his own mental and all over health!! Who knows. Thanks for doing these videos!!

  • Dr. Mike, I love what you do on this channel, but... After watching your House reviews, and several other episodes, I wish you'd touch more on that old saying about Zebras. Those of us out here with rare illnesses have been getting lousy treatment from the medical community for ages. When the horses are all ruled out, we're written off as liars and sent home, only to further deteriorate. Mine went undetected for 20 years...time that could've been spent getting regular care and treatment. Instead I was mocked and ignored by doctor after doctor that never felt it necessary to look for any Zebras. When you hear hoofbeats, sometimes it really is a zebra. Please do an episode discussing what to do for patients who continue to experience debilitating symptoms, when the cause is undetectable.

  • One of my cats, Thor, had septic arthritis when he was a tiny kitten (he was approximately 1kg at the time). He got it after he had an infection in an IV line when he was an extremely sick neonatal kitten. It settled into both his elbow joints and caused subluxation of both his radius and ended up with a hairline fracture in his one radius. 3 years later and he walks a little goofy, he has mild arthritis in his elbow but he is a happy and healthy kitty. He has regained almost full use of his joints and even surpassed the vets expectations.

  • I watched every episode of House, mainly because Hugh Laurie is great, but one thing that always bothered me was that there always had to be one unifying theory to cover all symptoms. I often wondered if the patient could have two (or more) unrelated problems causing unrelated symptoms.

  • Could you please react to one of the Private Practice episodes?!? I loved that show as much as I love Grey’s (despite the medical inaccuracy). Also, please shed some light on Neurocardiogenic Syncope/ Autonomic Dysfuntion. I was diagnosed with it at 19 after over 6 months of testing with different specialists. I’m now 30 and still have doctors that ask me to explain what I have. Apparently people don’t know about this enough, and it’s a serious issue for those of us that deal with it- at any level of severity.

All he does is shotgun ideas until he's finally right, and orders test after test as if the patient won't be drowning in debt afterwards.

  • After watching the four House episodes back to back, I think something that Dr. Mike doesn't realize about House is that patients are referred to him because the previous, well qualified, doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with the patient. In the show realm, House is an exceptional diagnostician so much so that the hospital that House works in established a Department of Diagnostics so that they could use House's abilities to the greatest extent, this despite his crazy antics. What makes him so great at diagnosing the diagnosable is that 1. has an enormous pool of knowledge on basically everything and 2. he often has obscure hunches that turn out to be correct, likely residually due to his enormous pool of knowledge. I get that Dr. Mike isn't a serial watcher of the show, so he wouldn't know all of this. I also get that even within these established ideas the show can still get ridiculous.
