But would you consider doing something like AIP or similar for 30 days to highlight how difficult chronic medical conditions can be? Particularly conditions that aren't always visible externally.

  • I had the hardest time resisting chocolate and milk on the diet but it did make me feel better in general. I unintentionally lost 10 lbs but it was because sometimes I'd find myself at someone's house where I could only eat lettuce at the meal or deli turkey. It ended right when my city's Greek Fest occurred so I splurged and it threw me right off track. Felt so sluggish and bloated after that. I will say though, I ate a lot of meat, fruits, nuts, and vegetables and I think I should try to stick to that kind of Ape diet.

  • When i go to my rheumatologist i see posters from humira saying we should avoid sugar, nightshade, junk food and eat more veggies. My doctor doesnt agree with this diet but there are people with RA who feel better by removing inflammatory food.

  • I love eating, so I exercise and do yog just so I can eat. My week (eating wise) looks like this: Monday: Food without garlic and onion. Tuesday: Fasting (only dry fruits and fruits when I get hungry) Wednesday to Saturday: Home cooked (Indian) meals (breakfast with fresh Mosambi Juice or sweet lime, Lunch with buttermilk and dinner with curd) Sunday: Cheat day I'm vegetarian btw. I don't like restrictive diets but sometimes they are important.

  • There are two introductions for Whole30. One is called a slow roll. Curious, if you felt you needed to re-introduce one thing at a time, you didn't choose this option. I also feel like they don't push you to do it on a whim. Melissa states "on the advice of your doctor" and "make sure you are ready"! I feel like you didn't read any of the books? Maybe you did and missed that part. It was definitely right for me. Maybe it isn't right for everyone, but after 6 months of following Whole30 advice, my bloodwork looked better than it had in 16 yrs! This is after a two year stint with another plan.

  • So I think that this guy didn’t do actual Whole 30. He did it as kind of an afterthought and didn’t actually follow through with what Whole 30 is even about. He clearly did not read the Whole 30 book because if he had he would have known that they strongly discourage people from trying to do it over the holiday season. He would also have known that Whole 30 is about instilling better food habits, meaning Little to no fast food during your 30 day elimination diet. Instead “Dr” Mike took the diet out of context, tried to eat out at restaurants all the time, had no vegetables (from what I can tell in the video he had mostly protein), and didn’t listen to any of the Whole 30 guidelines. This video was for views, and not to actually help anyone out regarding Whole 30. Thumbs down.

  • so I'm a colon cancer survivor and a year ago little over a year ago I had a colectomy I got very lucky we caught it at the very beginning so it's just a small cancerous polyp through able to get rid of no chemo however, my diet has been a disaster. Eating a salad a simple salad even like the most basic salad there is wrecks my guts I went to my doctor because this is extremely annoying and frustrating to be trying to eat healthy and have such issues. I'm at the beginning of my third week of Whole30 I'm feeling good, I struggle with not being able to eat rice that's that's a staple for me I do like that I can have potatoes on Whole30. So I will probably go a little bit longer than the regular Whole30 because next week I have to have my follow-up colonoscopy which Gatorade is not approved on Whole30 and my bowel prep includes Miralax and Gatorade cocktail. So I'm finding for me things that never gave me stomach issues before my surgery now all of a sudden are. Prepare unpairing this with intermittent fasting to try to reset my gut biome and get healthier

  • I'm on day 7 of whole 30, and I've realized just how much I crave sweets and cheese. I was cooking a lot of asian dishes as well and had to give up rice was hard too. :( It's quite the emotional rollercoaster. At times I want to give up and do at least a dessert with compliant ingredients or just go paleo, but I'm beginning to also notice that its because of my desire for sweets and things that are bad for me and how I want to get into a healthier mindset. It floors me just how little can be bought at the grocery store, even from the organic section, while on whole 30, and how some form of sugar is added to most every processed food.

  • When you talked about weird looks when you didn’t have alcohol at an event, I felt that when I went to a conference. I can’t have alcohol, and I got some weird looks at the opener of the event. But luckily someone told me the bartenders would make a mock tail if you asked, so I got those the rest of the weekend and no more weird looks.

  • Thank you for sharing! I'm on day 18 of the WHOLE30 diet. I can say that I have a lot more energy than before. I don't feel like I need to take several naps per day. Unlike you, I wasn't eating a healthy diet before - I always ate way too much sugar/bread/white rice/pasta, just unhealthy carbs and not enough vegetables and fruit. This diet is just teaching me to make better choices; to choose what I eat based on what my body NEEDS and not just on what it WANTS (because all it wants is cheese and sugar, honestly). LOVE

  • Whole30 isn't actually too hard (outside of the cost, it's expensive.) You have to adjust to what's new rather than what's gone. The wife and I didn't start until after the new year. Only because this diet would be impossible over the holidays. It worked out better for me than my wife. I lost 30 lbs in those 30 days and the wife lost 10. We no longer follow the rules completely. But it did help us start to eat better. I changed how I cook, what's in it, and we stopped going out as much. In fact we pretty much are on a hybrid of Whole30 and Keto.

  • Watching this I realize you didn't do this diet properly, particularly when it comes to the second half. You reintroduce foods once a week not once every day or two. Did you prep your own on the go snacks to ensure you weren't tempted to be bad? Did you check what chipotle cooked their chicken and fajita veggies in? How much planning did you do before doing this? The book mentions that the diet is time consuming and that you have to prepare but I don't get the sense you did enough prep before doing the diet based on the actual whole30 rules rather than what other people online state in their reviews of it.

  • I have done Whole30. I think that Dr. Mike missed one VERY important part of the description of Whole30. It isn't an elimination diet to lose weight, though that may happen; it is a diet to help locate food sensitivities. That is why some of the healthy foods (black beans, quinoa, brown rice) are cut out. It is still something to think about and plan before doing, but the goal of Whole30 is not to just lose weight.

  • If you are ever feeling peer pressure due to not drinking alcohol, and you are the kind of person who wants avoid that confrontation altogether: order a soda water with lime in a glass. It will look like a gin and tonic! :) (Remember though, you NEVER have to drink, or even fake drink, if you don't want to. Don't let other peoples' opinions make up your mind for you.)

  • I tried the whole 30 (age 20) to better understand my dietary habits and what certain foods do to my body. It basically showed me that I’m sensitive to lactose and gluten. It also showed how my eating habits really affected me in my energy, clarity, and overall performance in daily life. My skin cleared up, I slept better, waking up wasn’t a pain for the first time in my life! Now (age 25) I’ve used what I learned and make better habits with food. I agree with Doctor Mike that it’s a bit overboard and not necessarily the BEST diet BUT it is a clear set of rules to follow that can lead to better food awareness. I could’ve seen these changes by “just eating healthier” but I didn’t know what that meant when I was 20. 4.5 years later, I stick to simple food that’s unprocessed, while allowing treats here and there in moderation. I feel great.

  • My sister has a dairy allergy. A lot of people confuse it with lactose intolerance, but she a has a legit ALLERGY. She's used to sometimes having to skip entire meals because she can't have it. I honestly feel a little guilty whenever I eat a super milky dessert, like ice cream. Whenever I eat something she can't have, she always asks if she can smell it.
